Kailasam Yoga Center

Maroon yourself at South India's oasis

Hosts Diana and Mohan warmly invite you to a two-week oasis getaway at Kailasam. Located in the beautiful village of Kovalam, in Kerela, South India, you never have to leave the resort premises to get the yoga holiday of your dreams.

The Kailasam Yoga Center is surrounded by lush gardens and is only reachable by foot through the coconut groves. Look to the west towards the Arabian Sea and to the east towards the mountains of the Western Ghats. You can forget about traffic and hectic life styles because at Kailasam inner-peace is within reach.

The yoga and meditation center at Kailasam is home to an area designated strictly for finding inner-strength, beauty and tranquility. British-born Diana draws on her Indian and European background to teach the classical Sivananda-style of Hatha yoga. There are 2 sessions each day, and while the morning sessions are more physical - touching on asanas (posture) and flexibility - the afternoon classes are designed to be more meditative.

As a Kerala physician, Diana's partner Mohan specializes in Ayurvedic massage treatment; which is a popular option for detoxification and to learn about South India's ancient techniques and unique approach to healing. After all this activity, the beach is only a 3-minute walk, but you may never want to stray from the relaxing shady rooftop at Kailasam. You will get a sense of "real-India" with the extraordinary accommodation and staff members who are always around to address questions.

Kailasam has 8 guest single and double en-suite rooms. Each is equipped with a ceiling fan and mosquito net. All suites are decorated with traditional Indian elegance. In the village of Kovalam there are 2 gorgeous, sandy beaches that look like they're straight off a postcard. The area attracts both locals and visitors with its ideal swimming conditions and glorious sunsets.

Seafood is Kovalem's specialty, but there is always fare for everyone. Kovalem menus are rich in vegetarian options, as well as western-style dishes and typical Indian curries. Shopping is always a treat and a great evening activity when a cool breeze makes the air fresh and crisp. Local handicrafts, clothing and jewellery are a few popular items found in the shopping district. If you don't find what you want, talented Kovalem tailors can make any piece of jewellery or clothing from scratch. For the more adventurous, explore the nearby temples, markets or wander through a local festival where you can experience the authentic Kerala lifestyle.

The Kailasam Yoga Center is open for guests from November to March, so be sure to plan ahead and take advantage of this most exquisite holiday that you will never forget.
