US Yoga Teacher Training
Get yoga certified close to home
Before you decide to do your yoga teacher training, you will want to settle on a style of yoga that you love and want to study. Then you can match your preferred yoga style with a perfectly suited training program and center.
Another consideration will be how you would like to schedule your study time. A friend of mine saved up a pile of money and headed to India for a three month teacher training intensive course. Worldwide yoga training is a great experience but you may not be able to, or want to, do that.
My group yoga instructor “in training” is taking a slower route. She travels one hour each way to a yoga centre, two weekends a month for her training. She will continue to do so for 15 months. This allows her to continue her job, meet her young family's needs and get certified. Once you decide your time frame, you can factor this into your search for the right training.
If possible, be sure to visit the center and observe your potential yoga teachers. You will want to feel very comfortable with your surroundings and the personalities of the yoga instructors. There's nothing quite like meeting in person to help make your decision.
Like any other form of adult training, you will want to determine the extracurricular requirements and expectations that a yoga training program expects. Plus, what additional expenses besides tuition you will be required to shoulder.
Then, talk to a few graduates from the yoga center to fill out your picture.
You may decide to quit your day job and become a full time yoga instructor. Or you may teach a class a week. No matter what you decide, take your time formulating your vision and then mindfully, do your research.
There are many yoga magazines, which list indices of yoga centers and yoga teachers in the US; usually with website addresses and brief descriptions listed.
