Tibetan Singing Bowls
Its harmonious notes will free your spirit
Tibetan singing bowls are popular meditation tools used to promote relaxation and are revered for soothing the stress of many yogis with their beautiful spiritual sounds. Tibetan singing bowls are traditionally made out of a seven metal alloy, which contains gold, silver, iron, copper, lead, tin and mercury.
The technique of making the bowls existed in Asia and their craftsmanship dates back 2500 years.
Like tingshaw bells, Tibetan singing bowls have been used on many occasions related to Buddhism and Hinduism religion. They are also commonly used in meditation practice. Tibetan Monks and Buddhism believe the sound and vibration of a Tibetan singing bowl can transform your spirit into outer space. Once the spirit travels back, it is said to bring you balance and strength. The mantras recited during the making of a Tibetan singing bowl penetrate into the metal and release the reverberating tones when the bowl is played with a wooden stick, which is called puja.
To make a singing bowl sing, you need to hold the bowl in the palm of one hand and let the body of the bowl vibrate freely. By rubbing the puja along the outer edge in a circular motion with an even pressure, the bowl will vibrate and the sound will grow as you gently increase the speed. You can also make the bowl tremble by tapping the bowl gently. The clear tone and volume of the singing bowl are controlled by rotating the puja in your hand.
Depending on the singing bowl's size, thickness, material and weight, every bowl has a distinctive singing voice. During meditation, the sound helps draw one's focus inward and evokes the Kundalini chakra. Tibetan singing bowls typically range in size from 5-inches to 13-inches in diameter with a 2-inch depth costs about $30 online.
