Sacred Statues
Open your home to some of yoga's powerful deities
Sacred statues and sculptures are the art work that depicts religion and legend from sacred realms. Yoga statues are made of metal, soapstone, sandstone or hardwood and usually represent sacred deities.
Yoga was originally practiced in ancient India. The three main faiths of India are Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. They developed side by side, responding to the similar influences and exchanging ideas and insights. Their believers went to temples on special occasions in order to ask their gods to help them attain clear minds, make decisions and for blessings. The statues and sculptures represent individual gods and they are erected in order to strengthen your belief and support your inner force.
As yoga, with its unique multi-functional postures and meditation, spread to the Western world, sacred statues began to catch practitioners' attention as well. Yoga's sacred idols can be placed in a garden, meditation area or anywhere in your home, in order to bring a sense of holiness into our lives. Each statue is a tangible deity from legend, and each has a different reputation and reason they're revered. With rich and interesting stories behind them, these sacred statues are usually depicted in fine detail. Therefore, other than respecting them as symbols of religion, you can also use the statues as home décor as well.
The most popular sacred figures include Buddha statues, Ganesh statues and the statues of other Hindu gods such as Hanuman, Kali, Krishna, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Shiva and Nataraj. Be aware that not every god represents wonderful things, like wealth, health or happiness. Some of them symbolize darkness or even death.
Yogis believe that while it's simple to "ask" a god's presence in your home (you just need to purchase a statue from the store); it's troublesome to get rid of the same god, because it will surely offend and make them angry.
